“By practicing Biofeedback consistently, I’ve improved the quality of my sleep, my blood pressure is more stable and I can tune down my awareness of my tinnitus when it is screaming in my head from clenching my jaw. It has made me more aware of my body’s automatic responses to stress and given me the confidence and belief in my natural ability to improve my health by paying attention to its signals; and then given me the skills to cope most effectively.”
– Madeline Bakarich
“Biofeedback provides information to change the problem (in my case test-taking anxiety) in addition to counseling and active participation. Over time, I came away with simple behavior changes that benefited my overall lifestyle and an attitude towards caring for my body and mind as well as the skills to pass the nursing exam.”
– Delight Low, MSN-RN
Dr. Peper’s private practice is based on the use of biofeedback and self-regulation approaches within a holistic health context. There is a strong focus on teaching skills to mobilize health. Training is adapted for each individual and may include biofeedback assessment and training on specific skills. It often includes biofeedback monitoring and training using muscle tension, breathing, peripheral hand or foot temperature, heart rate variability or skin conductance. Health benefits may accrue as the person learns new skills and concepts and then practices and incorporates them into their lifestyles. The underlying concepts are to teach skills and attitudes that support and nurture the person’s innate self-healing capabilities.
In many cases, biofeedback skills are integrated with many other self-control strategies such as stress management, self-monitoring of stress reactions, relaxation and regeneration strategies, self healing imagery, changing internal dialogues, autogenic training, meditation, diet, physical activity, somatics, and therapeutic touch.
